About this program
As a Brown-NIH graduate student, you will get the best of both worlds - the world class academic environment of Brown University and the breadth and depth of research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Students in the NIH-Brown University Graduate Partnerships Program earn their PhD through the Brown Neuroscience Graduate Program (NGSP). Students in this partnership perform their academic responsibilities at the university and their dissertation in an NIH research group. For all degree requirements, please visit the Brown NGSP website.
As a Brown GPP student you will:
- Take courses and rotate with faculty in the Brown NGSP
- Rotate in NIH research groups to identify a dissertation mentor
- Have monthly meetings with the Brown GPP Partnership Directors and current students
- Travel back to Brown in your second and fourth years to perform an in-house seminar
- Attend the Brown NGSP – GPP retreats every three years
- Begin the GPP as part of a cohort with first year students in the JHU and GU GPP programs

Prospective students must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents and must hold a bachelor’s degree by the matriculation date.
