Job

Staff Scientist

About the position

The Immunology Section, Liver Diseases Branch (NIDDK) is seeking an experienced scientist to study the role of wild-derived microbiota in preclinical mouse models of inflammation and metabolism. The candidate must have demonstrated experience in preclinical research with mice, and specifically in the management and husbandry of mouse colonies with wild-derived microbiota. The candidate must have at least 8-years experience in basic immunology, flow cytometry and molecular biology research, as well as data analysis skills. The Staff Scientist will divide time between conducting research projects in the laboratory and the management of the mouse colonies with wild-derived microbiota. The Staff Scientist will conduct mechanistic investigations in preclinical disease models to understand the relationship between wild-derived, naturally co-evolved microbiota and mammalian immune responses and metabolism, and how defects in these processes cause diseases. The Staff Scientist will work independently under the supervision of a Principal Investigator and interface with animal care technicians at on- and off-campus facilities for the management and husbandry of mouse colonies with wild-derived microbiota. Specific responsibilities for the Staff Scientist include:

  • Conduct and publish research projects in mouse models of inflammation and metabolism
  • Maintain and analyze large data bases on microbiota and immune phenotype of mice
  • Train postdoctoral fellows and students in methods of basic immunology, flow cytometry and molecular biology research
  • Work as a team member within the Immunology Section, Liver Diseases Branch as well as collaborate with other investigators at the NIH.
