Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and other neurodegenerative diseases caused by prion and prion-like self-propagating protein aggregates are among the key research emphases within the Laboratory of Neurological Infections and Immunity (LNII) at NIAID’s Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML) in Hamilton, MT. LNII is currently soliciting applications for s for postdoctoral research in this area. In addition to the proteinopathies, pertinent fundamental mechanisms of neurodegeneration will also be considered.
About the position
Situated in the scenic Bitterroot Valley of southwestern Montana, with easy access to some of the finest outdoor recreational opportunities in North America, RML has state-of-the-art facilities that include an operational biosafety level (BSL)-3 facility, a BSL-4 laboratory, and an animal facility that can accommodate work with small animal and nonhuman primate as well as core facilities for genomics, electron microscopy, flow cytometry, metabolomics and bioinformatics.
The research project is to be performed primarily in the laboratory of one or more Principal Investigators (PIs) of the applicants choosing within LNII (https://www.niaid.nih.gov/research/lab-neurological-infections-and-immunity). This project may be developed in consultation with the designated PI (or PIs) and address either fundamental or translational aspects of neurodegeneration

- Recent (within 4 years) Ph.D., M.D., or comparable doctoral degree in a relevant field. Current NIH post-doctoral fellows with less than 3 years experience are eligible.
- Demonstrated past research productivity
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills
- Potential impact of the research on the development of better diagnostics and therapeutics for patients with neurodegenerative proteinopathies
- Plausibility of success given the resources available at RML
