Postdoc position in the Neurovascular Research Unit

About the position

This position is available in NINDS-Stroke branch in a newly opened 'The Neurovascular Research Unit' (Chief: Dr. Amreen Mughal). The Stroke Branch has advanced both basic and clinical science in its laboratories on the Bethesda, MD intramural research campus and through strong collaborations with local area hospitals. The focus of the Stroke Branch going forward will include both basic/translational and clinical/epidemiological innovative research program(s) in all aspects of stroke, acute traumatic brain injury, and/or vascular cognitive impairment. The NINDS Stroke Branch has already made important basic and translational contributions to our understanding of stroke and related disease.

The successful candidate will investigate molecular mechanisms of basic vascular physiology and pathophysiology of vascular cognitive impairment & dementia (VCID) including stroke using pre-clinical models. The research involves in vivo imaging of blood flow, calcium signaling, arteriography, genetic engineered animal models, patch clamp electrophysiology and image analysis using commercial and customized programs. Prior Experience in the vascular biology, ion channels physiology, small vessels diseases in the brain and programming/coding are preferred. A successful candidate will possess self-motivation and desire to learn new skills. Successful candidate will be offered health insurance and salary in commensurate with education and experience. This position is subject to a background check. The position is fully funded by the NIH intramural program and will be open until suitable applicant is found.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must hold a doctoral degree (PhD or the equivalent) in Physiology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience and/or a closely related field by the start date of the fellowship and should have less than 5 years of post-doctoral experience.
