Job
Postdoctoral Fellow — Genetic Epidemiology
Organization
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Bethesda, MD and surrounding area
Scientific focus area
Microbiology and Infectious Diseases
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), one of the largest institutes in the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), conducts and supports basic and applied research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases.
About the position
A postdoctoral fellowship position in genetic epidemiology is available in the Genomics and Precision Health Section (GPHS) within the Laboratory of Allergic Diseases, NIAID. GPHS seeks highly motivated and collaborative candidates who are interested in genomics and multi-omics studies in a dry lab environment dedicated to computational research. GPHS aims to bring together genetics across the atopic march for atopic dermatitis, asthma, and food allergy. The lab integrates genetics with additional omics like DNA methylation, RNA-Seq, and plasma proteomics to better understand the genomic underpinnings of the allergic diathesis. Importantly, GPHS work focuses on the inclusion of underrepresented populations in genomics research with the goal of equitable translation of genetics clinical practice. Currently, GPHS is working on several “big data” initiatives in allergy that will provide opportunities for postdoctoral training in a variety of computational areas related to precision health for allergy and beyond. These initiatives include 1) a multi-omics interrogation of local and systemic signatures for asthma across the African diaspora that brings together genetics, DNA methylation, RNA-Seq, and proteomics in hundreds of study subjects and 2) whole genome sequencing across four major clinical trials in food allergy that examine the role of genetics in clinical outcome response to oral immunotherapy and biologics for food allergy.
