Job

Postdoctoral fellow (Colonoids/Colon cancer)

About the position

A postdoctoral position is available in the Comparative and Molecular Pathogenesis Branch and Mechanistic Toxicology Branch (MTB) in the Division of Translational Toxicology Program (DTT) at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The candidate will focus on developing and validating 3D colon cell culture systems using rodent and human stem cells (embryonic, iPSC and adult) to investigate etiological factors implicated in early onset colorectal cancers. These studies will complement ongoing animal studies using rodent models susceptible colon cancers. In order to understand the downstream molecular alterations related to carcinogenesis, several multi-omics approaches will be considered. Candidate will be mentored by a multi-disciplinary team with primary co-mentors (Drs. Arun Pandiri (Leader, Molecular Pathology Group, CMPB/DTT/NIEHS) and Erik Tokar, Stem Cell Biology Group, MTB/DTT/NIEHS).

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn about development and optimization of in vitro model systems that are biologically relevant and help address mechanisms of carcinogenesis. Opportunities also exist to gain an appreciation for tumor pathology, and multi-omics approaches to understand mechanistic linkages between environmental exposure and carcinogenesis. The DNTP postdoctoral training program typically funds fellowships for three years. Stipends commensurate with experience. Postdoctoral fellows are considered as professionals-in-training and are not classified as NIH employees. Medical insurance is provided. The position is immediately available and will be open until filled.
