Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is a gut-brain hormone that is largely produced in the L cells of the small intestine. GLP-1 plays an important role in sensing and regulating peripheral glucose level. GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1R) is expressed abundantly in both the periphery and the brain. However, the mechanisms by which GLP-1 signaling in the brain regulates peripheral glucose level remain to be fully elucidated.
About the position
We aim to study the mechanisms by which GLP-1 signaling in the brain regulates peripheral glucose level. This fellowship study investigates such mechanisms in a joint lab from three laboratories – the L Li lab (Computational Biology) in the Biostatistics and Computational Biology branch, the X Li lab (Metabolism, Genes, and Environment Group) in the Laboratory of Signaling Transduction, and the Cushman lab (Neurobehavioral Core) in the Laboratory of Neurobiology.
