About the position

A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Jeffrey Strich’s laboratory in the Critical Care Medicine Branch at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health. This translational immunology laboratory is interested in using in vitro and ex vivo assays, large animal models, and human clinical studies to study the pathogenesis and develop therapeutics for patients with infections that cause critical illness with a focus on bacterial sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Specifically, the researcher will use a combination of cellular biology, molecular biology, immunology, single cell technologies and informatics using samples from human and large animal models to study granulopoiesis and innate immune responses with a goal of better understanding the molecular pathogenesis and to develop novel therapeutics in patients with infections that cause critical illness. Additionally, this position will be directly involved with testing novel therapeutics in a large animal model of bacterial sepsis. More information about Dr. Strich can be found: https://clinicalcenter.nih.gov/meet-our-doctors/jstrich.html The position is available immediately and the appointment duration is up to 5 years. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to utilize an interdisciplinary approach to pursue research interests and advance to an independent research career in the NIH intramural program, which includes supportive and advanced core facilities specializing in transgenic mice, human iPS cells, advanced microscopy, sequencing, proteomics, biochemistry, and bioinformatics.
