Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Fellow with strong interests in translational cancer research to join a dynamic research team.
About the position
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for conducting research projects in collaboration with a research team consisting of scientific and clinical investigators.
Candidates should have strong interests in single-cell and spatial genomics and epigenomics, and molecular and cell biology with a strong computational and bioinformatics skillset. Incumbent exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies, and performs computational analysis for single-cell and spatial genomics and epigenomics, and interpretation of results.
This position will be in support of Dr. Xiaofeng Allen Su laboratory at the Murtha Cancer Center Research Program's (MCCRP) Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR). The Su lab focuses on how genomic instability and tumor-specific aneuploidy influences prostate cancer development. The lab aims to elucidate in-depth molecular mechanisms in the field of (but not limited to) DNA damage repair, genomic instability, 3D genome dynamics, cancer metabolism and cancer immunology. CPDR has a close collaboration with National Cancer Institute (NCI) – Genitourinary Malignancies Branch (GMB), where Dr. Su also has an adjunct appointment.

Responsibilities:
- Leads, designs, develops, executes, and implements scientific research and/or development plans; conducts, and completes investigations under supervision of a team science leadership.
- Follows instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Performs laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures.
- Performs data entry in accurate, timely, and efficient manner.
- Maintains records and documentation regarding assigned research.
- Documents current or new procedures and protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation.
- Creates, collects, disseminates maintains appropriate study data and samples, keeps detailed records of experiments.
- Maintains clear and accurate data collection records and inventories in accordance with clinical and/or laboratory practices.
- Researches and contributes to scientific research papers, funding/fellowship applications and protocols.
- Assists in writing and editing of experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
- Presents scientific progress in professional seminars and conferences.
- Maintains supplies in the laboratory and ensures proper cleanliness and sanitation in accordance with clinical and/or laboratory practices.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Doctoral degree required. Preference for degrees in molecular cell biology, computational biology, or computer science (biology focus).
- Minimum of 0-5 years experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Performance for duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator including experimental design, ability to analyze data, and interpret results.
- Motivation to lead research projects under Principal Investigator’s supervision.
- Strong background and interest in working on large-scale single-cell and spatial genomic, transcriptomic, or proteomic studies to explore cancer-related cell types and pathways.
- Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques, ability to follow detailed instructions, good communication and analytical skills is required.
- Background in cancer cell biology/models, cell culture work, molecular biology, biochemistry, 3D genome dynamics, DNA damage and cancer metastasis is preferred.
- Highly organized with the ability to meet project deadlines. If in the future project statement of work requires access to a federal facility or network, additional relevant site-specific background investigations may be required.
- Eligible to obtain the T1 public trust investigation in the future.

- Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
- Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Compensation
- The annual range for this position is $50,100-$64,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
