The Laboratory of Bioorganic Chemistry (LBC) in NIDDK seeks an experienced mass spectrometrist to support research in the discovery and development of new classes of pharmacological agents. An integral part of this research involves the development and application of modern techniques in organic, medicinal and analytical chemistry.
About the position
The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining an advanced research grade LC/MS/MS mass spectrometry resource. The LC/MS/MS data provided by this instrumentation is critical for a wide variety of research areas and supports chemists and chemical biologists engaged in cutting edge biomedical research. The most important role of this position is to be able to operate and maintain the sophisticated and complex HRMS instrumentation in a way that maximizes the quality of the MS data generated and to also make the instrument available to as many scientists as possible.

Qualifications
The following qualifications are required:
- PhD in organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a mass spectrometry-related field.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as substantiated by scientific publications in mass spectrometry related areas.
- Postdoctoral or industry experience in operating and maintaining HRMS and HPLC or UPLC instrumentation.
- Knowledge of organic chemistry and the ability to use MS or MS/MS data to help determine structures and yield and/or success of reactions or enzymatic transformations.
Preferred experience or qualifications include the following:
- Experience with performing accurate mass measurements on molecules ranging from small, synthetic, organic, drug-like compounds; peptides and natural products in the 1-5 kDa molecular weight range; synthetic oligomers such as nucleic acids and peptide nucleic acids (PNAs); nanobodies and antibodies and their chemical conjugates with mwt ranges up to 80 kDa; and glycosylated molecules with a large mwt range.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and to provide rapid turnaround of HRMS data Experience with leading a MS facility or resource and tracking users, sample types, and methods used
