Deputy Director, OAR

The Office of AIDS Research (OAR), part of the Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives within the Office of the Director, seeks an exceptional and visionary leader to serve as its Deputy Director.

About the position

Established by Congress in 1988, OAR ensures that the largest public investment in HIV research globally is directed toward the highest priority areas. OAR is responsible for:

  • Establishing NIH HIV research priorities,
  • Allocating HIV research funds in alignment with these priorities,
  • Managing HIV research across NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices (ICOs), and
  • Collaborating with U.S. government agencies, community groups, and global organizations to end the HIV pandemic.

Qualifications

  • Appointees may be U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, or non-U.S. citizens who are eligible for a valid work authorization.
  • M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas:
    • Senior-level scientific expertise and a distinguished record in HIV or related research.
    • Leadership and management of multidisciplinary research programs.
    • Demonstrated capability in strategic planning, resource optimization, and program analysis.
    • Strong knowledge of NIH/HHS policies, including program and financial management.
    • Effective collaboration and communication with scientific, government, and community stakeholders.
