A Postdoctoral Fellow position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Andrew Lane at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery
About the position
The post-doctoral fellow will use a combination of approaches in molecular genetics, immunology, and transcriptomics to investigate the interaction between the immune system and the nasal epithelium in chronic inflammatory disease. We are particularly interested in basic mechanisms underlying chronic rhinosinusitis, including subcellular pathways impacting progenitor cell physiology, innate immune defense, epithelial repair, and the loss of the sense of smell.

Qualifications
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a PhD or MD/PhD degree in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, biomedical computational science or related fields to join our group in a collaborative environment promoting creative scientific research and career development. Experience preferred in multi-omics data analysis with proficiency in R and data visualization tools for differential expression analysis, pathway enrichment analysis and network analysis. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, excellent organizational and communication skills, and critical thinking abilities.

Associate Laboratory Director, NBTCC
Has leadership/management accountability for strategic direction and execution of the NBTCC. Works with USG sponsors to develop and execute a strategy for NBTCC that is consistent with its central position within the United States’ biodefense enterprise. Is expected to be a national-level contributor to biodefense and to maintain effective interactions with U.S. government stakeholders, with the Intelligence Community, and with technical experts in industry, academia, and the U.S. government.

Associate Principal Investigator, Virology/Immunology
Works with a team of scientists in the NBFAC at Biosafety Levels 2, 3, and 4 to develop, evaluate, and optimize immunoassays for toxin and microorganism detection, and to isolate, identify, and characterize viruses. Participates in casework involving viral culture and toxin detection from forensic evidence, following the ISO 17025 standard, in support of the FBI and other federal partners. Assists with project management and reporting of results.

Associate Principal Investigator, Bacteriology
Utilize standard methods and develops new methods for the identification of bacteria obtained from forensic evidence. Characterizes bacterial agents using phenotypic, biochemical and/or automated identification systems at Biosafety Levels 2, 3, and 4. Develops, modifies, verifies, validates, and optimizes classical bacteriology and novel identification techniques, in addition to assisting with oversight of bacteriology casework for the NBFAC following the ISO 17025 standard.
